Lily Deforce and her colleagues at Ilfaro embraced an initiative that brings people together around significant, yet divisive, questions. With their solution-focused approach, they designed the “Different Opinions Dialogue,” a structured process allowing any two people to listen deeply to each other and understand one another’s perspectives. In less than an hour, a truly enriching experience unfolds. The purpose of these dialogues is to enter a mode of listening and discovery—not to convince someone with opposing views or resolve a conflict. The structure is beautifully simple:

Drawing on the Seven Virtues of Bushido, the traditional code of the samurai, Miklós György explores what it means to use Solution Focus in problem-focused environments. But what drew me in were the stories he tells. Stories of using a Solution Focus approach while living rough on the streets and in tough schools, environments that are naturally problem focused.

She beautifully demonstrates what it means to slow down and notice: create enough space for the unexpected to emerge and discover what is easily overlooked. Her reflections are a reminder that as SF practitioners, awareness is something we continually cultivate.

Julianna Toth Introduction by Jacqui Horan In this thought-provoking and inspiring presentation, Julianna Tóth and her colleagues at the Bátor Tábor Foundation Hungary, describe part of a School Outreach Programme. It is designed to enable children to sensitively and successfully reintegrate into school after experiencing significant illness.

Annie Bordeleau Synopsis In this Open Space session, the group explored the British Columbia First Nations Principles of Learning to discover just how deeply intertwined they are with the Solution Focus (SF) approach and our efforts to create a more sustainable world. Introduction by John Teager A very special and enduring bond was established when Anton Stellamans, Jonas Wells and Mark McKergow met, for the first time, at the SOL World Conference in Sweden in 2004. This opportune bringing together of philosophy, anthropology and rabid curiosity led to an immediate connection and a natural conversation on how Solution Focus, and the groundbreaking work of Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg, could be evolved and brought into organisations and society more widely.
